Runout Problems

When changing the tool, adjusting the CNC program, or modifying cutting parameters does not result in the part spinning well centered.

The first thing you would look at would be the cutting tool. You change it, adjust the CNC program, or modify cutting parameters, and the problem persists.

Making it necessary to check if the implementation or integration of a system

due to not implementing or integrating a tool holder system, clamping systems, measurement, setup, and process control correctly.portaherramientas, sistemas de sujeción, medición, setup y control de procesos.

What is runout and why does it affect machining so much?

A control of a circular feature and its degree of variation with respect to the axis of rotation. The deviation can be indicated in any feature that rotates around an axis.

In practical terms, it means that the tooldoes not rotate perfectly centered..

GD&T tolerance zone:

A two-dimensional circular tolerance zone defined by a reference axis where all points of the called surface must be found. This zone is a direct reference to the reference feature.

It is measured with a height gauge over the reference surface. The reference axis is controlled by fixing all reference points and rotating the central axis. The variation is measured with the height gauge, perpendicular to the surface of the part.If it does not exceed the deviation tolerance, the part meets the specifications.

Why does runout reduce tool life?

Because a tool with runout generatesunequal loads on the cutting edges, which produces irregular wear and vibration during machining.

The true origin of runout: the complete system

When runout appears in a CNC process, the source is often found in one of these elements:

1. Tool holding system

The quality of thetool holder and chuckhas a direct impact on runout.

High-precision solutions like those fromAlbrecht allow for extremely low levels of concentricity when used correctly.

2. Boring systems and adjustable tools

In boring operations, precision depends on both the geometry of the tool and its micrometric adjustment capability.

Manufacturers likePinzbohrandCanela Toolsdevelop systems specifically designed to maintain dimensional stability in high-precision applications.

3. Measurement and metrological verification

A common mistake is trying to solve concentricity issueswithout having a technologicallyadequate metrology system:

Allow for the identification ofdeviations in concentricity, shape, and positionthat are not visible in conventional inspections. In seconds, directly on the shop floor.
